FAQ
Why is SVG not supported?
SVG is vector-based. This tool crops raster images (PNG, JPEG, WebP) by selecting a rectangular region.
What is the maximum file size?
12 MB per image.
Is my image sent to a server?
No. Cropping is done in your browser. Your image never leaves your device.
What happens to the cropped-out pixels?
They are permanently removed from the downloaded image. The original file is not modified. If you need to try different crops, re-upload the original image each time.
What is the rule of thirds?
The rule of thirds divides the image into a 3×3 grid. Placing subjects at the intersection points creates a more dynamic, visually appealing composition. Crop so the subject falls on one of the four intersections rather than dead center.
What are common aspect ratios for cropping?
1:1 (square) for Instagram and profile photos. 16:9 for video and YouTube thumbnails. 4:3 for traditional photography. 3:2 for standard DSLR photos. 2:3 for portrait/Pinterest. 1200:630 (≈ 1.9:1) for Open Graph social sharing.
What is a safe zone in video production?
A safe zone is the inner area of a video frame that is guaranteed to be visible on all screens. Action safe is typically 90% of the frame; title safe is 80%. When cropping screenshots from video, keep important content within 80–90% of the center.
How do I crop for a specific print size?
Calculate the target pixel dimensions: multiply inches by DPI. For a 5×7 inch print at 300 DPI: 1500×2100 px. Set the crop to those exact dimensions at the desired position in the image.
What is center crop vs custom crop?
Center crop automatically selects the middle of the image. Custom crop lets you specify exact X and Y offsets from the top-left corner. For portraits, centering on the face is usually better than cropping the mathematical center.
Does cropping reduce file size?
Yes. A smaller image has fewer pixels and typically a smaller file. Cropping a 4000×3000 photo to 1920×1080 reduces pixel count by 83%, resulting in a much smaller file.
What is lossless JPEG cropping?
Standard JPEG cropping re-encodes the image, which can degrade quality. Lossless JPEG cropping (via tools like jpegtran) works in 8×8 MCU blocks without re-encoding. This tool does not perform lossless JPEG cropping.
